New EPOS Installation at Moore's Fish & Chips | ACR EPOS
in General September 3, 2026
Moore's Fish & Chips in Castle Douglas has recently reopened following a complete refit of the premises after a fire. As part of the reopening, ACR EPOS Systems has supplied and installed a new EPOS solution designed to support the business as it gets back to serving customers.
The new setup combines VMAX Halo terminals, SPOS EPOS Software, handheld EPOS terminals and a five-screen Kitchen Display System (KDS), giving the team a connected solution from taking the order through to kitchen preparation and payment.
The Solution
ACR supplied and installed:
- 2 x VMAX Halo EPOS terminals
- SPOS EPOS Software
- 5 x SPOS Kitchen Monitors (KDS)
- Handheld EPOS terminals
The combination gives Moore's a modern EPOS setup across the front and back of house, with orders moving digitally between the point of sale and the kitchen.

Five kitchen screens for a clearer view of every order
One of the key parts of the installation is the SPOS Kitchen Display System, with five kitchen monitors installed across the operation.
Unlike a traditional kitchen printer, where tickets can build up and staff have to work through a physical pile of orders, a KDS gives the kitchen a live digital view of what is happening.
Staff can see which orders are new, which are being prepared and which have been completed. This makes it easier to keep track of multiple orders during busy periods and reduces the chance of tickets being missed.
Keeping orders moving through the kitchen
In a busy fish and chip shop, orders can include food being prepared at different stations at the same time. A Kitchen Display System can help organise that information so the relevant kitchen staff can see what they need to prepare.
Orders appear on screen as they are placed, removing the need for printed tickets to be collected and distributed manually. If an order is changed or cancelled, the kitchen can also receive the updated information digitally.
This gives the team a clearer picture of what needs to be prepared and helps keep the operation organised when demand increases.

Less paper, fewer points of failure
Moving from kitchen printers to digital screens also removes some of the practical problems associated with paper tickets.
There are no paper rolls to replace and no printer jams to deal with. Tickets cannot fade, get lost behind another order or simply sit unnoticed on a crowded printer.
For a busy kitchen, having the information displayed clearly on dedicated screens can also create a cleaner and more organised working environment.
Handheld EPOS for greater flexibility
The new installation also includes handheld EPOS terminals, giving staff the flexibility to take orders away from a fixed till.
This can be particularly useful when the business is busy. Rather than relying entirely on customers and staff returning to a fixed point to place an order, handheld EPOS allows transactions to be taken where they are needed.
For businesses with different service areas or changing demands throughout the day, that flexibility can be valuable.
Your business. Anywhere.
A modern EPOS system does not have to mean being tied to a single counter.
With handheld EPOS alongside fixed VMAX Halo terminals, Moore's has the flexibility to take the EPOS into different parts of the operation when required. The technology works around the business, rather than forcing the business to work around the technology.
This is particularly useful during busy periods, when having another way to take orders can help the team respond to demand without creating unnecessary pressure around a single point of sale.
A complete EPOS solution for the reopening
Following the refit, Moore's Fish & Chips needed more than a new till. The reopening provided an opportunity to put a complete EPOS setup in place, covering the customer-facing side of the business as well as the kitchen.
With SPOS EPOS Software at the centre, the VMAX Halo terminals, handheld devices and Kitchen Display System work together as part of the same setup.
That gives the team a consistent system to work with across the business, from taking an order through to preparing it in the kitchen and completing the transaction.
No monthly contracts or licence fees
The new system also benefits from ACR's approach to EPOS pricing. There are no monthly contracts or ongoing software licence fees for this installation.
For an independent hospitality business, knowing the cost of the EPOS system without adding another recurring software subscription can make budgeting more straightforward.
It is part of ACR's one-off cost approach, designed to provide businesses with a long-term EPOS solution without the ongoing licence fees associated with many subscription-based systems.
Supporting Moore's as it moves forward
Reopening after a fire and a complete refit is a significant undertaking for any business. The new EPOS installation gives Moore's Fish & Chips a modern system to support its next chapter in Castle Douglas.
With fixed EPOS terminals, handheld ordering and five kitchen display screens working together, the setup has been designed around the practical requirements of a busy fish and chip shop.
