About Heads of Ayr Farm Park

Heads of Ayr Farm Park is an award-winning visitor attraction on the A719 coastal route near Ayr. Originally a working sheep farm, it was transformed by Craig and Edna Rankin into a family-run destination that now welcomes around 170,000 visitors annually.

Since first opening in 1993, the park has grown from a small playground and a few animals to a large-scale attraction with over 80 species of animals, themed play zones, indoor soft play, quad bikes, train rides, and more. It now features three catering outlets, a gift shop, an indoor animal barn, and a newly opened children’s nursery.

Open year-round, the park runs popular themed events including Fairytale Day, Dinosaur Day, and an annual Christmas Grotto experience. It’s currently rated the #1 Favourite Thing to Do in Ayrshire on TripAdvisor and has received multiple awards including the Scottish Thistle Award for Best Visitor Attraction.

The Challenge

As the Farm Park expanded and visitor numbers increased, the management team required a more modern EPOS solution to keep pace with demand. The previous system, while reliable, lacked the reporting depth and integration needed for a multi-site attraction operating several busy food, beverage, and retail outlets.

ACR was tasked with implementing a streamlined setup that would:

• Deliver accurate financial and stock reporting across all outlets.
• Integrate card payments to speed up transactions.
• Provide a consistent, easy-to-use interface for seasonal and part-time staff.
• Lay the groundwork for new loyalty and membership features.

The Solution

ACR supplied and installed new EPOS terminals fully integrated with DOJO card payment devices throughout the Farm Park. Each terminal connects directly to SPOS ECR Manager back-office software, giving management real-time visibility of sales, performance, and stock.

Installations were completed across five key areas:

1. Retail Shop
2. The Stone House Kitchen
3. Grazers Grill
4. Stables Coffee Bar
5. Entrance Kiosk

The upgrade also introduced a Gift Card and Membership System, scheduled to go live shortly. This addition will enable the park to issue reloadable gift cards and manage customer memberships directly through the same platform.
